Champagne sailing conditions for the 2000 Millenium Series 4 sponsored by West Country Boat Repairs at Chichester Yacht Club on 29th June. Sixteen boats gathered for the one day open event.

The sun was shining, the breeze was up and forecast to rise, and, unlike last year, there was very little weed - a perfect day for sailing!

Race one took place on a rising tide with a shifty force 3/4 breeze. First away at the gun were Simon and Katie Horsfield, who took the lead at the start and continued to give a masterclass performance for the rest of the day. They were never challenged and comfortably took 1st place in all three races. Rob and Gemma Burridge took second place in race one with Jonathan and Louisa Ching in 3rd.

As Simon and Katie took flight, behind them, a huge battle was taking place between Pete Vincent and Sophie Bentley, Rob and Gemma Burridge, Jonathan and Louisa Ching and Jonathan and Matthew Bailey.

The wind built little by little all day and in the second race there was a general recall and a black flag re-start. As the wind built to force 4 and swung, the shifts began to lessen, good news for the coastal teams, less fun for the inland sailors who love a shift or two! Race two finished with Pete and Sophie in second place, Rob and Gemma in third and Jonathan and Louisa in fourth.

For race three, the wind had increased to force 4/5. With race one having been four laps and races two and three being five laps, the crews found themselves working extremely hard and there were some tired arms! With the points being very tight, apart from Katie and Simon, second place was in the grasp of a number of teams at the start of race three and with some solid and consistent sailing, Pete and Sophie finished race three in second place with Jonathan and Matthew in third.

Overall results gave Katie and Simon the win, with Pete and Sophie second and Rob and Gemma third.
