Switzerland SailGP Team was back in action this weekend, competing at one of the most iconic racecourses of the Rolex SailGP 2025 Championship, New York.
Saturday's opening race day saw stormy skies and heavy downfalls, paired with light tactical racing. Sunday, the second and final day of racing, delivered gusty and unpredictable wind shifts and a choppy sea state - making it complex and demanding for all teams.
The fleet was challenged further this weekend by the return of the light-air 'L' shaped foils, a configuration not used since the Season's opening event in Dubai last December.
After six fleet races, Switzerland SailGP Team closes the event in 9th but holds onto 7th place overall on the 2025 Championship standings.
New York marked the final stop of the 2025 U.S. leg. The Rolex SailGP Championship now heads closer to home with events in the UK, Germany, France and Spain. The inaugural Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix, in Geneva, takes place 20 - 21 September.
Driver Sébastien Schneiter on today's racing: "The team sailed the boat really well today in very challenging conditions - especially Bryan [Mettraux - flight controller]. We had the tools to fight on the racecourse, but starting at the back of the fleet made things difficult. We managed a good comeback in the first race, struggled a bit in the second, and had a better start in the third, which made a real difference."
"The 'L' foils made the racing pretty full-on this weekend. It was a little loose at times and clearly tough for everyone out there, but we embraced the challenge and as a team, we really enjoyed the racing here in New York."
"Our starts continue to be a key focus and as the driver, I take a lot of responsibility for that. It's been a work in progress for a while, but we haven't seen the improvement we're aiming for yet. There's no magic bullet - it's about getting the small things right and for sure we are making good progress in some areas. We'll keep digging and trust in our process."
The Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth event takes place 19-20 July.
