The Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) today launched the call for nominations for the 2025 Sustainability in the Boating Industry Award.

Nominations are now open for the Award with the winner to be announced at the Sydney Boat Show in August. Nominees will be assessed on their achievements in reducing environmental impacts through actions such as use of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes, contributing to emissions reduction, and/ or implementing sustainable business practices.

The award recognises companies or individuals who have demonstrated outstanding efforts in contributing towards sustainable business practices and/ or supporting the sustainability of boating.

A guide to nominations for the award are available on the BIA website and must be returned by 4 July 2025.

Last year's winner of the Award was Steber International which is a 79-year-old Australian owned and operated family business that is highly regarded as leaders in sustainable powertrain solutions, with their business spanning recreational, commercial and Defence maritime sectors.

Winners for 2025 will receive a trophy and certificate, along with special prizes at the awards ceremony to be held at the Sydney Boat Show, Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park on 14 August.

The BIA is now in a collaboration with the Australian Fishing Trade Association due to the close relationship of boating and fishing, and in total the two organisations represent $21 billion in annual industry turnover and 135,000 people employed. Seventy-five per cent of BIA members are in small family businesses, employing local workers and supporting local communities.
