2025 Melges 24 European Sailing Series - Event 3 Day 1

by International Melges 24 Class Association 24 May 03:51 BST 23–25 May 2025

Combine one of the best Ora breezes we've seen in recent times with one of the world's most competitive and internationally followed one-design classes, then leave it to Fraglia Vela Riva and the International Melges 24 Class Association to deliver the perfect recipe — Day 1 of the third event of the 2025 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, which also serves as the Melges 24 Italian Open Championship - first scoring event of the 2025 Trofeo Gaudi, the Italian Melges 24 circuit, delivered an exhilarating start for the 27 teams on the water.

At the end of three high-intensity races, the early lead belongs to Paolo Brescia's Melgina (ITA854), whose consistent scores of 1-2-6 place them at the top of the provisional standings.

Just one point behind is Andrea Racchelli's Altea (ITA722) with a solid 3-4-3 scoreline, keeping the veteran Italian team comfortably inside the top five throughout the day.

In third overall is Luka Šangulin's Panjic (CRO803) — the current leader of the Melges 24 European Sailing Series standings — who posted a steady 7-3-5. Only one point separates Panjic from Laura Grondin's Dark Energy (USA868), who claimed the win in Race 2 with a strong performance and now sits fourth overall (6-1-9).

Rounding out the top five is Dino Orioli's Daito Nano (ITA748), skippered by ILCA standout Giovanni Coccoluto, who claimed a commanding victory in Race 3. They sit just ahead of Vladimir Prosikhin's Team Nika (MON860), a high-profile addition to the class, with results of 9-8-4.

In the Corinthian division, Tarabochia family's White Room (GER677) leads the amateur standings after scoring 10-12-2, holding a narrow one-point lead over the former Corinthian World Champions Taki 4 (ITA778), owned by Marco Zammarchi and helmed by Niccolo Bertola (2-9-14). Close behind in third is Ákos Csoltó's Chinook (HUN850), whose consistent 12-6-10 places them right behind in the overall fleet as well — the three Corinthian teams currently hold 9th, 10th, and 11th positions in the general classification.

Racing is set to continue tomorrow with similar conditions expected. PRO Gabriella Gabrielli has called the first warning signal for 13:00, with another thrilling day of racing anticipated on the waters of Lake Garda.
