Norfolk Punt Club Sunday Club Racing - May 2025

by Alan Davis 21 May 08:44 BST 18 May 2025

A very uninspiring weather forecast discouraged many from venturing out onto the Broad, however, those that did enjoyed a great day.

We started with overcast, grey skies and light, patchy very flukey winds. After lunch the clouds mostly cleared to give bright sunshine with a fresh northerly wind filling in.

Two Punts, a River Cruiser, a Yeoman and four Yare & Bures had some very competitive racing, especially the Y&Bs who had some very close tussles, swapping the lead many times.

Race 1
1st. Bart Sawyer in his Punt, Cormorant
2nd. David Adler in his Y&B, Marsh Ringlet
3rd. Simon Daniels in his Y&B, Silver Blue

Race 2

1st. Simon Daniels in his Y&B, Silver Blue
2nd. Rachel Clayton in the Cruiser, Waxwing
3rd. Peter Robbins

Race 3

1st. Simon Daniels in his Y&B, Silver Blue
2nd. Peter Robbins in Y&B, Small White
3rd. Matthew Scott in his Y&B, Reed Leopard

These first three places were separated by less than 20 seconds!

Race 4

1st. Matthew Scott in his Y&B, Reed Leopard
2nd. Simon Daniels in his Y&B, Silver Blue
3rd. Peter Robbins in Y&B, Small White

Special thanks to Jane and Pauline for Teas and Charles, Frank, Harry and Biddy for Rescue Boat duty.

A perfect day for sailing to start the season We awoke to clear blue skies and very little wind. But the Met Office said it would be mainly southerly F2, increasing to F3 and gusting F4 later. And so it was - a perfect day for NPC sailing. What a joy after the weeks we have endured beforehand! Posted on 9 May 2024
