There was a time when every car had a map and every boat had a chart. As Global Positioning System (GPS) displays became a standard feature, maps and charts have become somewhat obsolete.

In fact, many of today's boaters wouldn't be able to read a chart even if they had one. But what if your GPS display was not operational? Would you be able to get from point A to point B? If traveling by car, it might be easy to pull over and ask for directions, but in open waters, the fish aren't going to point the way home. You might be thinking, "I'll always have my GPS." But are you sure? Here are some ways you can prepare, just in case the unexpected happens.
