The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team officially begins its first-ever participation in Porto Cervo today, taking part in the second event of the 2025 44Cup season - one of the most demanding professional sailing circuits in the world.

During yesterday's official practice day, the team delivered a strong performance, securing a podium finish in the second race of the day.

"It was a positive training day. We had very technical conditions with light winds. I'm very pleased with the team's performance and with how the boat responded," said Alfredo González, Project Director and Tactician of the team.

With 11 teams on the starting line, the 44Cup Porto Cervo marks the return of the fleet to European waters following the season opener in February in the British Virgin Islands. The event is hosted by the prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in the heart of the renowned Costa Smeralda, one of the most iconic venues in international sailing. Races will be held over the next four days in windward-leeward format just off the Porto Cervo harbour—on a racecourse where local knowledge and the ability to read the wind will be crucial.

This edition sees the return to an 11-boat fleet, a number not seen since 2016, and features world-class sailors such as Francesco Bruni, Vasco Vascotto, and Michele Ivaldi. For the Lanzarote-based team, this marks a very special debut at this venue, during their second stop of a full RC44 season.

"We're excited to be here. Porto Cervo is an incredible place, and we've had great sensations during the training days," commented Daniel Calero, Team Owner and Helm.

The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team competes with the support of a strong group of sponsors committed to elite sport and to projecting Lanzarote internationally. Turismo Lanzarote, Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote (CACT), Calero Marinas, Calmar, Lanzarote Investment, and John Woods Real Estate power this project that connects the island with the world's top sailing circuits.

The team also benefits from the technical support of leading brands such as Harken, through Equipyacht, and Gottifredi Maffioli, whose specialised equipment ensures optimal performance in every manoeuvre. Alegra Travel joins as the team's official travel partner, managing logistics and mobility across international events.

With the championship officially under way and a forecast pointing to changing conditions throughout the week, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team begins the event with confidence, ambition, and a clear motivation to continue growing in one of the most competitive circuits in international sailing.
