Dragon World Championship by Tivoli Hotels & Resorts at Vilamoura, Portugal - Day 1

by Prow Media 12 May 2025 20:13 BST 10-17 May 2025

The highly anticipated Dragon World Championship by Tivoli Hotels & Resorts officially kicked off today in Vilamoura, welcoming some of the world's finest Dragon sailors for the first day of racing.

With an impressive international fleet on the water, teams set out to make their mark in the opening races of the championship.

It was a perfect sailing day on the water, with steady afternoon winds blowing from 240 degrees, ranging between 13 and 16 knots, accompanied by a slight swell — ideal conditions for competitive racing.

One race was completed as scheduled, showcasing high-level performance from the international fleet.

For tomorrow, two back-to-back races are planned, with the first possible Warning Signal at 13:00, depending on weather conditions.

Throughout the day, the level of competition lived up to expectations, with tactical sailing and close finishes reflecting the calibre of the championship. Spectators and sailing enthusiasts were treated to a remarkable display of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship from the international fleet.

The day will end on a high note with a Gathering Dinner, held at the exclusive Club House created especially for this event. In a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, sailors, team members, and guests came together to share moments of connection, conversation, and celebration.

Agenda for Tuesday:

  • Two back-to-back races
  • First possible warning signal at 13.00
  • Happy hour after races
