XR 41 Dominates at MaiOR Regatta — Racing Renaissance in Kiel

by X-Yachts 9 May 16:44 BST 2-4 May 2025

The all-new XR 41 "Formula X" secured a resounding debut victory, reviving X-Yachts' competitive legacy and energising a vibrant international racing fleet.

With five bullets in eight races, the newly launched XR 41 made a commanding first appearance winning before the last race at the 2025 MaiOR Regatta in Kiel the first weekend of May.

Team Formula X, helmed by Jeppe Borch and skippered by Jesper Radich, delivered a performance that left no doubt: the XR 41 is built to win.

"This is more than just a great result — it's a defining moment," said Kræn B. Nielsen, CEO of X-Yachts. "We've worked relentlessly to re-establish X-Yachts at the front of the international racing scene, and this victory is a clear signal: the XR 41 is a serious contender, and we are on the right track."

In direct comparison, the XR 41 outperformed the prevailing benchmark design — the X-41, winner of the 2024 European Championship.

"This sets a strong benchmark as we continue refining the XR 41," Nielsen added.

The 24-boat ORC A/B class brought fierce competition, high-caliber crews, and an infectious atmosphere — Kiel at its finest.

"There was a buzz across the entire fleet," Nielsen continued. "A strong turnout, fair racing, and a shared passion for performance sailing. Everyone was happy to be in Kiel — and proud to be part of this fleet."

A Strong Team

On board Formula X were some of Denmark's and Europe's most skilled sailors: Thor Malthe Andersen, Mads Christian Taatø, Gustav Schwennesen, Rasmus Taatø, Mathias Rossing, Luca Mayer, Gonzalo, and Enrico — alongside Kræn B. Nielsen himself.

"This team brought the XR 41 to life under pressure. Their focus and cohesion were exceptional," said Nielsen. "Partnering with Jesper Radich and curating a team with this level of talent has been key to unlocking the boat's full potential."

Fleet-Wide Excitement

The German XR 41 Exciter, skippered by Jens Kuphal, secured a commendable 4th place despite limited preparation — a clear indicator of the design's potential.

"With more time on the water, the entire XR fleet will only get faster," Nielsen remarked. "And that's what makes this so exciting."

Eyes on the Horizon

With a great debut now behind them, the Formula X team will turn their attention to data analysis and refinement in close collaboration with North Sails. The XR 41's next major appearance will be at the X-Yachts Gold Cup Festival 2025 — presented by Raymarine — followed by Kiel Week this June.

A Shared Success

"The energy at X-Yachts right now is electric," Nielsen concluded. "I want to thank every single member of our team, our partners, and our extended X-Yachts community. The XR 41 is the result of hard work and collective effort — and this weekend, we delivered!"
