Adrigole II crowned overall winner of the 2025 Naval Academy Regatta - RAN 630

by Giuliano Luzzatto 8 May 10:31 BST 2 May 2025

Francesco Giordano's X-41 Adrigole II is the overall winner of the 8th edition of the Regatta of the Naval Academy - RAN 630, thus winning the Naval Academy Challenge Trophy.

Adrigole II led a tactically impeccable race, starting to stretch out on the rest of the fleet already in the first leg towards the Porto Cervo gate, breaking away from the group of monohull yachts, while Matteo Uliassi's foiling multihull Falcon obviously raced a race of its own, winning the Line Honours and receiving the Pierre Hamon Challenge Trophy.

The crew of Adrigole II, a perfect example of true corinthian spirit, was able to maintain their concentration both on the offshore leg from Porto Cervo to the Faraglioni of Capri and on the upwind and light breeze ascent to Livorno, where they managed to contain the recovery of the Double Handed Sunfast 3600 Lunatika, which came second overall with a gap in corrected time of just 5 minutes and 19 seconds after more than 700 miles actually sailed. The RAN 630 is in fact the longest offshore race in the Mediterranean for rating classes of yachts.

Lunatika, skippered by Guido Baroni and Alessandro Miglietti and winner of the last two editions of the RAN 630, won the coveted Double Handed classification ahead of Italian Navy's Mini 6.50 Pegaso and Francesco Conforto's Class 9.50 Pegasus with co-skipper Ruggero Bellucci.

Third place overall was Damiano Zilio's X 412 Zeroincondotta, first in the Cruising class, The all-female crew of Audace, owned by Celia Oliverio, and Tattoo, owned by Luigi Paoletti, a very pasionate sailor and veteran of the RAN 630, come 2nd and 3rd on the podium.

In ORC B Lunatika came first, followed by the Mini 6.50 Pegaso Marina Militare and the Class 9.50 Pegasus.

In the IRC ranking Lunatika once again came first, followed by Gherardo Maviglia's Jeanneau 49 Amapola II and the Figaro 2 Tintorel of the French solo sailor Michel Cohen. He sailed an astonishing race, slowing down only because of the lack of breezes on the way from Capri to Livorno.

The Trophy in memory of Commander Saverio Marotta, Gold Medal for Military Valor reserved for military yachts or teams, was won by the Mini 6.50 Pegaso of the Navy Sports Group athlete Andrea Pendibene, who sailed in double with the young Tommaso Banfi, making his debut offshore. This is a programme by the Italian Navy for young dinghy sailors to take part in offshore races. Another young sailor was on the Italian Navy First 36.7 Fomalhaut as part of the same programme.

The prize-giving ceremony for the RAN 630 took place inside the Naval Academy. This was part of a big and well-attended ceremony for all the sailing classes present at the Accademia Navale International Sailing Week. The top finishers in each category of the RAN 630 were awarded a watch by Official timekeeper Locman. Technical sponsor Ubi Maior offered blocks to the overall winner, Adrigole II and to the winner of the DH, Lunatika.

On board Adrigole II, skippered and owned by Francesco Giordano, raced: Mauro Carminati, Anna Massaro, Nicoletta Cavaleri, Giacomo Fano, Vittorio Pani, Gregorio Ferrari, Filippo Canessa.

The One Ocean Trophy presented by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Terra delle Sirene Trophy presented by the Yacht Club Capri for the first boat in elapsed time at the respective gates were both won by Falcon.

The Naval Academy Regatta - RAN 630 is supported by the main sponsor Officine Gullo, Italian excellence in the production of high-end kitchens. Official timekeeper is Locman, an Italian watchmaker based on the island of Elba, while Ubi Maior is technical sponsor.
