A bold and inclusive new initiative is bringing something truly unique to Birmingham this spring. 'Into the Green & Blue', is a groundbreaking collaboration designed to unite the city through watersports, land-based activities, and shared community experiences.
Launched under the umbrella of Into the Green & Blue, the programme is a joint effort by the Andrew Simpson Foundation and ASC Birmingham, in partnership with StreetGames, RYA, Swim England, Paddle UK, Love Rowing, Canal & River Trust, Bell Boating, and Bartley Sailing Club.
This citywide partnership is committed to improving access to sport, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, and connecting communities across Birmingham, particularly those who have traditionally faced barriers to participation.
The initiative begins with the Flow Together Watersports Festival on Saturday, 17th May, hosted at the Andrew Simpson Centre, Bartley Green Sailing Club.
This free community celebration will offer a range of family friendly activities including taster sessions in:
- Sailing
- Kayaking
- Bellboating
- Rowing
- Archery
- Swim Safety & Water Confidence
Participants of all backgrounds and skill levels are invited to explore the water and green spaces in a fun, friendly, and supportive environment. Activities will be delivered by qualified, experienced instructors, ensuring that everyone has a safe and engaging introduction to sport.
The event will also welcome Olympic athletes and special guests, who will share stories to inspire the next generation and encourage wider participation.
"We're proud to be part of a collaboration that's bringing something new to Birmingham, linking green and blue spaces, sport, and community. Flow Together isn't just a festival, it's the launch of a citywide movement to improve health, create opportunity, and build stronger, more active communities." Caroline Slocock, Head of Philanthropy, Andrew Simpson Foundation
"StreetGames are delighted to continue building partnerships which have a positive impact on the lives of children and young people. As the official charity partner of Team GB, this series of events will also connect Olympians and Paralympians with children and young people from across Birmingham, inspiring the next generation." Ray Vince, Programme Area Lead Birmingham, StreetGames
Following the festival, a long-term programme of inclusive, affordable activities will continue to engage young people, families, and under-represented groups throughout the year.
This is Birmingham's chance to Flow Together, to move, to connect, and to thrive.
