East Kent Radio Sailing Club DF95 Spring Series Event 2 at Barton's Point Coastal Park

14 boats contested East Kent's 2nd Spring Series event in light shifty winds. Nine different boats got on the podium with six skippers getting at least one win. Only Mike Brand got more than two 1st places. Mike made the top step his own with 5 wins, including in race 1 after three general recalls, but otherwise stayed out of the top 3.

Adrian Tomlinson, Alan Hounsell and Peter Jackson followed Mike in race 1, Then Peter got his only win in race 2, from John Nash & Dave Adams, with Dave taking race 3 from Paul Woodward and Adrian. Race 4 had yet another one time winner in Robert Owens, who'd spent 20 minutes trying to set the course in a tricky shifting North Easterly. Adrian and John Nash filled the places.

Mike's 2nd win was in race 5, from Dave Adams and Adrian with Peter 4th for the 3rd time. The 5th new winner was then Adrian, popping in 2 wins in a row, his only two all day, both from Dave. Paul Woodward then John Nash again grabbed the bottom step. Mike recovered from an 11th and 5th for his 3rd win in race 8, from Robert Owens and Dave. Race 9 saw the 6th different winner Paul Woodward, from Alan Hounsell's best finish of 2nd with Peter 3rd and Adrian 4th following a 5th.

Dave got his 2nd win in race 10, from Adrian and Rob Owens after Peter retired with a loose wire after problems with shifts and senility. Mike Brand struggled into in 8th. With the first few places still wide open Dave closed himself out from pole at the next start in closing Peter out, the two only recovering to 5th and 12th. Mike got his 4th win from Adrian, with Peter Glover finally making the podium in 3rd.

That result all but sewed up the event win up for Adrian, which was lucky as he was only 10th in the final race. Dave's 4th wasn't enough to dislodge him. Mike then also won the last race but had to count 5, 5, 7 and 8 to put him behind Dave in 3rd overall. Paul was 2nd in the last race for 4th spot overall from Rob Owens, who accomplished his aim of finally beating Peter. Alan was only just behind both in 7th from John Nash. It was just as tight at the back as new members John Barker and Edward Coxon scrapped it out to finish level on points. Most now head to Ramsgate harbour for the inaugural RTYC Friday evening event.

Hosted by a gem of a venue on the Isle of Sheppey East Kent Radio sailing club at Barton's Point is a gem of a venue on the NW corner of the Isle of Sheppey just west of Sheerness.
