Craftinsure Lark Travellers Series Round 3 at Shustoke Sailing Club

by Stuart Hydon 10 Apr 07:38 BST 6 April 2025

After the event was postponed from a couple of weeks ago finally the wind as well as the sun were present for the Shustoke Open. Whilst, it was sunny there was certainly an early morning nip in the air from the Easterly F3-F4 breeze.

There were some boats that had travelled from the previous day's open at South Staffs and we were also joined by Stuart and Julia Allen and some more home boats.

The PRO Rob Marlow and team utilised the easterly direction to set a half mile first beat for the first 2 races. Race 1 got off cleanly with Stuart and Nick Hydon pulling clear from the fleet. Sam Bailey/Laura Burch and Olly Goodhead/Kate Keith began to battle out for second and third place. Momentarily Sam/Laura slipped up having to return to pass through the gate which they had missed. Ed Bradburn/Holly Evans took 4th ahead of Jonny Coate/Kate Phillips.

Race two started similarly to the first with Stuart/Nick opening up a good lead. Ed/Holly pulled into second after taking Olly/Katie, but holding off Olly Saunders/Zara Frankton who managed fourth.

The final race was over a shorter course, but the easterly direction held. Line honours were tightly contested between Stuart/Nick and Ed/Holly, but Stuart/Nick manged to hold them back. Olly/ Katie maintained their consistency of another 3rd. The 4th and 5th place were determined a dead heat from video evidence between Jonny/Kate and Olly/Zara.

Thanks to Shustoke SC for hosting the event and Craftinsure as sponsors of the event.
