35th Palamós Optimist Trophy Day 3

by Jaume Soler 16 Feb 13:23 GMT 13-16 February 2025

The 35th Palamós International Optimist Trophy-19 Nations Cup will be decided on the last day after the first five classified with only 3 points difference between them after three races held.

The penultimate day has been marked by the absence of wind and where finally no race could be disputed, so that despite the attempt of the Race Committee and with the entire fleet on the water, the wind barely reached 5 knots, so that the day would end in white and the classification intact.

In this way the Italian Jasper Karlsen (Fraglia Vela Riva) -European bronze-, remains the overall leader with 9 points, one point ahead of the also transalpine Francesco Colotto (CN Marina di Carrara), who is second and the French Hugues Willot (EV Cherbourg), third.

Two points behind the podium, with 12 points are the Spanish Juan Lleonart (CN El Balís), fourth and the French Clara Zunquin (Régates de Royan), who is fifth overall and the first female. From there, Lluc Garces (CN L'Escala) is sixth overall, the Swede Alexander Forssen (RSYC KSSS), seventh; the Balearic Dani Capa (CN S'Estanyol), eighth; the Croatian Vita Erceg, ninth and the Alicante Alejandro Valero (RCR Alicante), tenth, closing the Top Ten to 7 points behind the leader.

In the event that this Sunday, the last day of the Palamos Optimist Trophy, at least one race could be sailed, a discard would come into play, which could radically change the classification and would give many options to Juan Lleonart to assault the leadership, since he has a tenth place and two firsts.

For the last day the forecast is also for very light winds, especially early in the morning, where they will try to take advantage of the land wind to be able to compete in at least one race, because as the day progresses, this wind is likely to disappear. That is why for the final day the start of the races will be brought forward to 9.30 am. The time limit for a start will be 16 hours.
