Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series 2024-2025 - Stage 2 Day 2

by Burak Zengin 18 Jan 21:42 GMT 16-19 January 2025

On the second race day of Tenzor International Cup - J/70 Open Winter Series 2024-2025, Leg 2, the sailors discovered new racing area in the waters of picturesque Kos-Akyarlar channel, where - following the weather report - the RC planned to set up the distance.

"At first, the wind was not enough for the race, but after a short wait, we found a north wind from 290 degrees and set the course accordingly. The wind speed soon reached 10 knots and the first race was completed in 45 minutes," reported Can Giray, the PRO.

Atoll Sailing Team reached the finish line first followed by Dolce Vita and Orient Express teams.

"There was a medium wind in the first race. We had a very good sail settings, we went well, switching modes correctly, and we were able to move from second place to the lead and win very effectively at the finish," commented Mikhail Ushkov, tactician of Atoll Sailing Team.

The RC wasted no time and got the second race started on the same course, and this race was also completed with a north wind.

Inna Balashova, skipper of Dolce Vita team, brilliantly won this race with her crew ahead of two strong rivals - Russian Bogatyrs and Tenzor Team.

The last race of the day had three attempts to start, because of "AP" flag and then the general recall. Finally, on the third go, the whole fleet had a perfect start. The wind speed and wavelength had increased, but the race passed without incidents. Bogatyrs, Tenzor Team and Gaswar boats took podium spots.

In the Corinthian division Orient Express team, skippered by Arif Gurdenli managed to reduce the gap to 1 point from the leaders of the group - O1 Properties team, led by Petr Bukin. Three Turkish teams Ayaz, Ada JR and Aspat occupy the following three places in the standings and enjoy the sailing process.

"We are leading in the Corinthian division, although we are closer in points to Orient Express — our main rival. We finished 8th in the first race today, 4th in the second race, but we fought for the top three, and in the final race we came only tenth, having broached. The wind was strong enough to blow up to 20 knots, so it was technically difficult for us. Everyone in the team is very happy with the racing process, we have a good team spirit, we will try to keep the lead in our standings tomorrow, on the final race day," said Eduard Skornyakov, O1 Properties team.

In overall results after two days and six races, Tenzor Team is leading with 10pts, Atoll Sailing Team is on second position (15 pts) and Russian Bogatyrs is third with 17 pts.

Step by step Dolce Vita moved up in ranking and is already on fourth position. Gaswar is fifth having the equal points with Dolce Vita. The team was very stable on the second race day and will continue to fight for podium.

Results after Race Day 2 (6 races):

1st TENZOR Team, 10pts
2nd ATOLL Sailing Team, 15pts
3rd RUSSIAN BOGATYRS, 17pts
4th DOLCE VITA, 21pts
