PuRO, a leading provider of advanced water purification systems, is excited to announce its partnership with renowned shipyard Vitters in support of Project Zero, a cutting-edge sustainable yacht initiative.

Project Zero is a fully electric vessel with no fuel tanks, making energy efficiency paramount. In this collaboration, puRO's water purification technology, usually used as a comprehensive solution for purifying dock water to prevent onboard spotting and ensure faster, more efficient washdowns, was innovatively adapted as a high-efficiency water recovery system, enabling Project Zero to save a significant amount of energy.

This project highlights a pivotal shift for puRO as it marks the company's first involvement in a sustainability-focused project of this scale, reflecting a shared vision for minimizing environmental impact and embracing innovative, eco-friendly technology in the yachting industry.

The partnership between puRO and Vitters was born out of a chance meeting at the METSTRADE show two years ago. A shared commitment to sustainability drew both companies together. Vitters was seeking an efficient water recovery solution to reduce reliance on traditional watermakers and save on power consumption, and puRO's state-of-the-art system proved to be the ideal fit for their needs. Although puRO initially developed its system for purification purposes, Vitters recognized its potential as a cutting-edge water recovery solution. This innovative adaptation not only conserves water but also significantly reduces energy usage—an ideal match for the energy demands of Project Zero.

"We were impressed by Vitters' visionary approach with Project Zero," said Omri Farbstein, Founder and CEO of puRO Systems. "Our adapted water purification system offers the perfect solution to their challenge of reducing watermaker usage, thereby lowering energy consumption. Given that Project Zero operates without fossil fuels, every aspect of efficiency is crucial. It's an honor to be part of this groundbreaking project."

Efficiency and sustainability onboard

PuRO's customized water purification and recovery system will be integrated into Project Zero, enabling the yacht to recover and reuse greywater and rainwater. This advanced capability will significantly reduce the vessel's reliance on its watermaker, ultimately cutting down on power usage and aligning with the project's goal of operating exclusively on electric power. While Vitters' expert team will handle the installation, puRO has been closely involved in ensuring a seamless integration of the system onboard.

The Project Zero collaboration represents puRO's first entry into a sustainable yacht project of this magnitude, showcasing the versatility of puRO's multi-functional water systems, which are designed to cater to yachts of all sizes and types.

Looking ahead

While Project Zero marks the beginning of puRO's involvement in large-scale eco-conscious yachting projects, the company is eager to continue expanding its presence in the sustainable maritime space. It's an ideal opportunity to position puRO as a complete solution for treating dock water to prevent on-board contamination and ensure faster, more efficient wash cycles and save energy. Further details and potential collaborations will be announced in the coming months.

PuRO looks forward to the successful installation of the water recovery system onboard Project Zero, with great expectations from the shipyard shortly. This partnership demonstrates puRO's ability to adapt its technology for new, eco-friendly applications, and the team is excited to expand its water recovery innovations further in the future.
