The Sailing Federation of Hong Kong, China in conjunction with co-organiser the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the International 29er Association, are pleased to announce the opening of entry for the 2025 29er Asian Championship. To be incorporated into Hong Kong's premier international regatta, Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2025 - the championship will run Tuesday 11 February to Sunday 16 February 2025.

Returning to the third edition, the event will be contested on Hong Kong's renowned world class racetracks. As a significant event on the Asian 29er scene, the event continues to be a major foundation regatta for supporting promising regional 29er sailors to hone their skills.

As the targeted Olympic Youth Development Skiff, the growth in the 29er Class continues across Asia, with the class raced in Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore and Thailand. Regatta Chair Peter Davies of Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week incorporating the 2025 29er Asian Championship said he anticipates continued growth in the event, with up to 28 teams from around the Asian region expected to participate in 2025.

Off the back of the interest generated in the sport post the Paris Olympic Games, Davies said regattas like Hong Kong Race Week and the 29er Asian Championship contribute greatly to the development of sailing in the region. Adding that the rise of Asian countries in qualifying and enjoying medal success at the 2024 Olympics, comes in part as a result of this.

"We are looking forward to welcoming back young sailors at all stages of racing, from the developmental Fleets all the way to Olympic classes like the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7, together with the 29er Asian Championship" Davies said.

Racing will take place on the racetrack of the 2018 29er World Championship and the 2023 & 2024 29er Asian Championship of Tai Tam and Beaufort Island to the South of Hong Kong Island.

We look forward to welcoming sailors to join this coveted major regatta on the Asian youth sailing circuit.

Entry is now open!.

We look forward to seeing you back on the start line this February 2025!
