The Sydney International Boat Show contributed $353m in total economic output from the 2024 event at Darling Harbour, according to the Boating Industry Association Ltd CEO Andrew Scott.

Scott said the show once again proved its worth following an independent economic analysis of the event which took place in August this year. "The Sydney International Boat Show attracted 42,000 attendees and there were thousands more enjoying the non-ticketed areas where our Discover Boating activities were accessible to the general public," he said.

Further North, a traditional sailing event also generates income for the local economy. There is a lot more to SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week (SMIRW) than meets the eye, as organisers at Townsville Yacht Club continue their mission to make sure the Island's community benefits from the annual event in more than the usual ways, while also making a positive effect on the local economy in September every year via the yachties, their families and friends. The recent Economic Impact Survey demonstrates there is significant growth in economic and tourism impacts and shows a total spending of close to $2 million, up from the previous year's $1.2 million.

With an eye on maximum media exposure, The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is delighted to announce that it will be partnering with Nine's multi-platform media network as the new home to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race for the first time in its 79-year history. The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) held its Annual General Meeting at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on Tuesday 22 October, where a newly elected board for 2025 was formed. The meeting marked significant changes in leadership, with long-serving board members stepping down and new members joining the team. After 26 years of contribution, AIMEX bids farewell to founding member and two-time President, Richard Chapman OAM. Also stepping down is Peter Dowdney, who has served as Vice President for the past eight years, additionally, Ron Schroeder, Director, is completing four years of service.

Leading Queensland Boatsafe training industry association BQI, which delivers marine training including boat driver licensing, has this week joined the Boating Industry Association Ltd. Boating Industry Association (BIA) CEO Andrew Scott said the move would enhance representation for the local safe boating training sector. "BIA will now establish a new Boatsafe Training Division to help improve awareness of, and access to, trusted boating educators to support the recreational boating community, as well as additional support in advocacy to governments," Scott said.
