A southerly wind of 5-7 knots led to new race winners Friday but not a change to the top of the leaderboard at the 2024 J/22 World Championship hosted by Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland. Locals Brad Julian's Yard Sail and Chase Quinn's Osprey swapped firsts and seconds to launch up the standings on this penultimate day.
Travis Odenbach's Honeybadger posted scores of 11,9 to hold the overall advantage at 36 net points. Only five points separate places two through six: Julian's Yard Sail, Glenn Darden's Baby Doll, Will Welles' Cougar, Quinn's Osprey and Jeff Todd's Hot Toddy.
Following an onshore postponement, Quinn's Osprey bested the 48-boat fleet, ahead of Julian's Yard Sail and Jeff Hayden's Polar Express. Race Committee posted another U Flag start for race 8, followed by a general recall, leading to a black flag start. Eight boats were over early in another general recall, leading to another black flag start. In race eight, Julian's Yard Sail outlasted the fleet, trailed by Quinn's Osprey and fellow local Todd's Hot Toddy.
Racing concludes with two races on Saturday. Complete event details available here.
