The final TT of the season was held at Frensham Pond on Wednesday 2nd October. The day started well with a NNE wind of 8-10 mph, building slightly during the two morning races. The afternoon saw some heavy downpours which included a frustrating drop in the wind for the end of the third race, but a reasonable breeze returning for the fourth race of the day.
The 2.3 fleet was dominated by Phil Monk from Whitefriars taking the win in all four races of the day, with Frensham's Lara Sturgis and Andrew Lebec enjoying some great racing for second and third place.
The five Libertys produced some very close racing, with the Frensham wind shifts making for some interesting times on the windward legs. The first race had David Durston in the lead the whole way, with Paul Pearson, Paul Phillips, Peter Etherton and Tessa Watkiss giving some great racing. The second race saw a bit more variety in first place but was eventually won by David Durston, with Paul Pearson taking the second. The afternoon races saw Paul Phillips taking two wins after some very competitive sailing again. The overall results for the day saw Paul Phillips taking first place, David Durston (Whitefriars) second and Paul Pearson (Rutland) third.
The 303 1P class had six competitors with some very close racing. Again, the windward leg saw many changes in position due to the wind shifts. The morning races were both won by Richard May from Frensham, with Judith Riggs, also Frensham, coming second. The afternoon saw Richard get one win and Judith take the last race. There was very close racing among the whole fleet of Richard, Judith, Kim Davies (Frensham), Max Rumball (Tideway), Leslie Phillips (Tideway) and Tom Hepburn (Chesil).
Five 303 2P were competing in the final class with again some very close racing. Husband and wife team Lynne and Stuart Swan (Chesil) won the first race with a good lead from Philip Hall and Denise Bryant (Chesil), and Kate Hedley and Meg Pasco (Frensham) third. The second race it was Kate and Meg who got away to win with a handsome lead. The third race in the afternoon saw Colin Freeman and Paul Raine (Frensham) retire in torrential rain. The fleet was then down to four boats, with the last race being won by Lynne and Stuart Swan, Kate and Meg in second, and Philip and Denise in third.
Thanks to the Race Officer, Graham Howlett, for a great day of racing, and much relief for the Frensham team as the last couple of years there was either too much or too little wind.
