Andoo Team Australia - Practice Races

by Andoo Team Australia 14 Sep 21:15 BST

Andoo Team Australia shows their form in official practice race today with two commanding wins from three races.

The six invited Unicredit Youth America’s Cup teams completed three practice races today, which included broadcast rehearsals.

Andoo Team Australia secured two commanding wins in races one and two. The team was in a strong position in race three before the breeze dropped, eventually finishing in fourth as all boats drifted across the line off the foils.

The form today makes a clear statement ahead of the start of racing next week. The team will use Monday’s short training session allocated to refine learnings from racing and prepare for the heavy racing schedule.

“And we're just really stoked to come away with some solid results. If someone had offered that to us at the start of the day, we would have taken it, no questions asked.” Cole Tapper, Skipper Andoo Team Australia.

"Today was a really positive day. There was a lot of unknowns, you would say. We were meant to go practice racing the other day and it was 15 knots and massive waves and every team was sort of battling it out, so today was a bit of an unknown," added Tapper.

"It's so early in the competition, we haven't even started racing, but it's good to know that we're probably on the right track and we've just got to keep working. We're getting better every day, so we're feeling a lot better after today."

"Well, if you're watching any of it or keeping up with us, we want to say thank you. Anyone who's interested in what we're doing, it just motivates us so much more. So yeah, thanks for watching and hopefully we do good things over the next couple of weeks," concluded Tapper.

Official racing for the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup begins on 17 September, with invited teams, including Andoo Team Australia racing for the first time on 18 September.
