Shrimper 19 Open Championship at Mylor Yacht Club

The 2024 event saw the biggest turn out yet for the Shrimper Class Open Championship with sailors and boats travelling from around the country to join the local fleet in Falmouth, Cornwall for a full race series.
The event was scheduled to coincide closely with the annual Falmouth Sailing Week regatta making trailing down, launching and holidaying for visiting Shrimpers sailors well worth the effort, providing an opportunity for some additional cruising time around the Falmouth estuary and local coastline. Over the three-day series the variety of wind conditions and course styles, delivered by the Mylor Yacht Club race team, offered challenging racing across the fleet.
After 6 races completed the results separated the first two boats by just one point, with the championship winner being local boat "Jackdaw" sailed by Stuart Sly closely contested by visiting Shrimper Tarragon sailed by Mike Lyons from Oxford in second place. Other prize winners included 1st single-handed Alan Mills, 1st Lady Helm Hatti Smart, The Windsport Trophy, Clive Henderson and the Endurance prize won by Mike Everett.
Special mention goes to all the sponsors and supporters of the event, Mylor Yacht Harbour, Windsport, Coastland, Navionics, Teamac marine Paints, Mylor Yacht Club, St Mawes Scent Company.
The date for the 2025 Shrimper Open Championships is already set for the 29th 30th 31st August 2025. The event is anticipating even more visiting boats in 2025 and local Shrimper sailing teams participating next year in an event that combines the on-water racing with evening socials and friendly chats.
