2024 ILCA UK Open & National Championships at the WPNSA - Day 2

by ILCAUK 14 Aug 2024 05:37 BST 12-17 August 2024

Competitors awoke to a rather overcast Weymouth Bay - but soon the sun shone and the wind picked up. By the first race of the day condition were yet again, stunning - 11 - 15 knots at 218°.

After sailing what seemed to be all the way to the beach at Osmington Mills, the 252 ILCAs were ready to race.

ILCA7

The RO wanted to shake off the cobwebs so he hoisted it several times before finally getting the ILCA7 off. James Foster won the day with a 1,2 - and moves to the top of the 7s. One point behind is Finley Dickinson discarding an 8th in the first race. James Percival-Cooke had a poor day by his very high standard with a 4th and 7th. Alastair Browne and Nick Welbourn grabbed 3rds - enough to move them up the results.

ILCA4

Sharing the course were the ILCA4s. Ben Anderson took the race four win to move him to the top. Toby Waggett couldn't quite match yesterdays performance but he is still only 2 points behind Ben in second. Alex Jones moves up to 3rd after a good second race. Sara Goujon must take home the prize for the performance of the day with a brilliant 3rd in the final race of the day.

ILCA6 - flighted

Matilda Nicholls didn't have it all her own way - Jon Emmett shared the glory, both sailors getting a 1 and 3. William Pank and Nathan Russell both bagged 1st. Although Matilda and Jon are leading the next 6 places are separated by just 2 points.

Sailingfast were Day 2 sponsors and provided some great prizes for the draw after racing. It cannot be stated too often that our sponsors are so very important to making these events special. Thanks Duncan and Emma - please support Sailingfast as they support us.

Wednesday looks like it will be a very different day with light winds forecast - who will triumph and who will falter?
