After weeks of anticipation and hard work from a dedicated band of volunteers the ABP Cadet Nationals is under way with champagne conditions in Plymouth Sound.

Wall to wall sunshine saw the light South Easterly wind boosted by the sea breeze building to around 12 knots. 101 Cadets launching from Mount Batten headed out to the racecourse with a plethora of pleasure craft divers and fisherman, for the biggest Cadet Nationals in a decade. This bumper fleet meant a new experience for the competitors with the event flighted for the first time in its long history.

With the forecast looking a bit iffy later in the week RO Arky took the decision to run three races instead of the scheduled two.

At the end of day 1 Josh Garner and Jack Benyan from Australia lead with a perfect score, followed by Tom and Annabel Shepherd from the UK. In third place is Illia Donchenko and Anatolii Moskalenko from the Ukraine having overcome more challenges than most to make the long trip to Plymouth.

The Cadet Class are extremely grateful to the support of all our sponsors in particular ABP, Minerva Virtual Academy, Stubborn Mule, Pure Storage, NFU Mutual, RHS, and GOAT Marine. The event is being run by Plymouth Youth Sailing, at the Mount Batten Centre for Watersports.

You can follow the event live on the Sailracer Tracker via the link www.cadetworlds.co.uk/tracker and on our social media channels follow @GBRCadets.

The class wishes to thank the event sponsors: ABP, Zhik, Minerva's Virtual Academy, GOAT Marine, Stubborn Mule, RHS, Pure Storage, West System, Optimum Time, Exe Sails, The Cornwall Bakery, Stitch Print, Golden Duck, Indigo Concept, Clamcleat, and Llandow Caravan Park.
