World champion in Finn dinghy sailing, Filipe Silva, is in Stamsund, Norway, to organize the world's first Finn dinghy regatta north of the Arctic Circle. He himself has driven up the participating sailboats from Portugal.

On Tuesday, Filipe Silva drove into Stamsund in Lofoten with a trailer with eight dinghies. He runs the Finn Sailing Academy in Vilamoura in Portugal and he has driven the last leg from Aarhus in the last few days. Filipe is a renown Laser and Finn dinghy sailor. One of his merits is victory in the Finn World Masters in 2023.

It may be the first time the Finn dinghy is north of the Arctic Circle. In any case, we are one hundred percent sure that it is the first Finn event north of the Arctic Circle, says Jørn Spetalen of the organising committee.

He and Arild Heldal are active in the Norwegian sailing community in Eastern Norway. They sit on the board of the Larvik Sailing Club and Arild is the general manager of the Bærum Sailing Club. They have been friends since growing up in Larvik and they are passionate about the sport of sailing.

Now they are part of the organizing staff for the unique Finn event in Lofoten.

During Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the midnight sun will shine on the action outside Stamsund.

Why in Lofoten? It is a passionate sport that leads to passionate deeds, here in wonderful surroundings. An experience shared with friends and sailors. That's the idea behind it, replies Silva.
