DF95 Conningbrook Lakes Spring Series at East Kent Radio Sailing Club Overall

by Peter Jackson 1 Jul 2024 11:06 BST 27 June 2024

Another close fought series concluded at the East Kent club's Isle of Sheppey venue (due to weed at Ashford) in marginal A & B rig conditions & sunshine.

Dave Adams had a strong morning with a row of six 1st & 2nd places. Other race wins went to Adrian Tomlinson, Alan Hounsell, Mike Brand (consistent with seven 2nds) and Peter Jackson. Spencer Pope was holding off Andrew Nichols with one podium and two 4ths.

With more breeze after lunch Adrian showed his mastery of B rig sailing plugging in 4 wins in a row and 5 in all to Dave's 2, and another win each for Mike and Peter to keep the pressure on. Alan's challenge faded under his B rig and Mike had receiver problems in the choppy conditions, ending his threat to Dave and Adrian. It was fitting that these two ended up equal on 32 points. Dave got the event win on countback by virtue of one more win than Adrian.

Mike recovered to hold on to 3rd with a 2nd place in the last race, No.20, from Peter's 1st, back with an A rig. Adrian's 3rd left him one point short of topping the results. Alan ended up a solid 5th, with Andrew 6th after Spencer retired early. The overall Spring Series result reversed the order with Adrian's 3 event wins trumping Dave's 2 wins. Mike and Peter were level just one point behind Dave overall before discard, Mike, with one event win, taking the 3rd place a point from 2nd. Alan was only one more point behind Peter after discard ahead of Peter Glover and Paul Woodward.

Event Results:

1. 358 Dave Adams
2. 30 Adrian Tomlinson
3. 875 Mike Brand
4. 211 Peter Jackson
5. 380 Alan Hounsell
6. 613 Andrew Nichols
7. 32 Spencer Pope

Series Results:

1. Adrian Tomlinson 16pts
2. Dave Adams 21pts
3. Mike Brand 22pts
4. Peter Jackson 22pts
5. Alan Hounsell 26pts
