Craftinsure Supernova Traveller Series at Winsford Flash Sailing Club

by James Stark 24 Jun 2024 07:02 BST 15 June 2024

On 15th June sixteen contenders arrived ready and raring to go for the Craftinsure Supernova travellers event at Winsford Flash Sailing Club.

Unfortunately the fleet were met by calm conditions which were extremely difficult to navigate. However, three sailors managed to show true skill on the calm still surface, Alex Reeve, followed by Winsford's own sailors Pete Chambers, and Pete Coop.

In all three races, you wanted to get in front early, and Alex proved to make good progress from each start.

Although the front runners showed a great performance, it's worth noting that Paul Undrell and Eric Haselden had a good chance for one of the podium spots until the last race! It was very close in the front five with these 5 pulling away from the mid fleet fairly quickly.

In the middle, it looked quite tightly packed and difficult to get passed each other, with battles to get some clean air.

At the back, it was excessively difficult to get going with the bad airs from the sails of the other Supernovas, not really getting much momentum until they had rounded marks and got away again.

Although the day was not the most blustery of days, it was good to see the experience shine through and the warm hospitality of the host club.

Winsford looks forward to seeing everyone again next year and the Class Association thanks the 'home team' for organising the event.

Supernovas at Cotswold
It was an 'eyes out of the boat' sort of day 25 entries including 11 visitors were greeted with sunny spells but a cold easterly wind which at Cotswold means big wind shifts, so the race officer Steve Crocker did a great job of setting a nice course with two beats and a variety of runs and reaches.
