Rooster Southern Topper Traveller Series Round 3 at Stokes Bay Sailing Club

by Bruce Keen 20 Jun 2024 07:27 BST 16 June 2024

Stokes Bay Sailing Club was host to the third event of this year's Rooster Southern Topper Traveller Series. Thankfully the wind had abated overnight, so the thirty-five sailors could enjoy perfect Stokes Bay conditions with a 15-20knots South Westerly. The waves built throughout day giving the sailors some exciting surfs downwind.

Ethan Rhodes' tactic of starting at the committee boat in each race, clearly worked in his favour, as he took the win from Seb Sitton in the Topper 5.3 fleet. Both sailors tied on points, but it was Ethan's win in race 2 that broke the tie with Seb in his favour. Samuel Wade won race 3 and finished 3rd overall, but the greatest number of race wins went to James Broad who won both the first and last races. First girl in the 5.3 fleet was local Stokes Bay sailor Eve Wealthy.

The Wealthy family success continued in the Topper 4.2 fleet where Reuben Wealthy won three of the races and won overall. Race 2 was won by Finlay Rhodes, who finished second overall closely followed by Hendricks Long in third overall. First girl was won by Megan Cerrato.

Another girl in the 4.2 Fleet, and also the youngest sailor, Alixe-Constance Rousselle was rewarded at the prize-giving for her perseverance and the "most number of smiles". She boasted at the prize-giving that she capsized 50 times!

Once ashore, the sailors were pleased to be greeted with ice creams in return for their tallies, to round out a great day.

Thank you to the team of volunteers on and off the water, and for Stokes Bay Sailing Club for hosting a fantastic event.
