Over 100 sailors will be in action this weekend, June 22-23, at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, as they will take part in Sail Canada 2024 Sail West Championships.

The competition will be held during the "Waves Regatta", the largest dinghy event on the West Coast in Canada, welcoming annually over 100 participants. This year, they will primarily come from British Columbia and Alberta. Sailors will compete in the 29er, Club 420, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Optimist and RS Feva classes.

Sail Canada Sail West Championships will start with a training clinic on Friday, June 21, from 9am to 5pm.

This day will be led by Kyle Martin, Sail Canada National Training Centre Coach and Canadian Sailing Team Alumni, Matt Pistay, Head High-Performance Coach at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, and Federico Temesio, head of the Optimist Program at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.

Races for Sail West will be held according to the following schedule:

  • Saturday, June 22: races are scheduled to start at 11:30 am
  • Sunday, June 23: races are scheduled to start at 11 am
Sail Canada Sail West event is part of a series of seven Sail Canada National and Regional Championships to be held this summer. These competitions provide an opportunity for sailors to train and compete with high-level sailors in their region, in addition to serving as talent identification opportunities for regional and provincial sailing teams, as development and mentoring opportunities for coaches, as well as training and development opportunities for officials and volunteers.
