DF95 Spring Series at East Kent Radio Sailing Club - Update

by Peter Jackson 3 Jun 2024 14:41 BST 30 May 2024

In shifty winds the top 2 competitors slugged it out race for race, hogging all but one of the wins and finishing on equal points. Mike Brand started with two wins, but Peter Jackson replied with the next three, and so it went on, swapping wins.

Peter Jackson led at lunch with 6 wins from 10 races. Alan Hounsell managed four 2nd and five 3rd places but the Jackson-Brand monopoly was only broken once, in race 13, lucky for some, with relative newbie Paul Woodward getting his first ever win from Peter Jackson who's lowest counting result was 4th. Paul was also now finding some consistency scoring five 2nd places out of the 18.

Peter Glover was also performing consistently with six podiums in the tricky shifty conditions. Both Martin Smith and Spencer Pope managed 2nd places, Spencer losing out to Martin largely by virtue of training his son in the finer arts of DF95 sailing.

After lunch Mike Brand had come back with 5 wins from 8 races to close the points gap to 3, but level after discards at 28 each. Peter Jackson had won the last race from Martin Smith, with Alan Hounsell 3rd for the 6th time and Mike 5th, but the tie was broken by Mike having had one more 1st than Peter. Alan Hounsell was 11 points back for 3rd overall 3 points ahead of Paul Woodward in 4th with Peter Glover 5th.
