For Event 2 of the Rooster Southern Topper Traveller Series we headed over to Portchester SC on Sunday May 12th. Portchester is blessed with a fantastic sailing area, but only once the tide is in, hence a leisurely start to the day was in order with High Water not until 1530pm.

At the briefing our Race Officer for the day, Nick Martin, warned the 28 entries to launch on time as he "wouldn't wait for late comers" and this set the tone for the day with everything running on time thanks to Nick, Steve and the rest of Team Portchester.

4 races where held in light winds with the occasional large hole thrown in for good measure. Spotting the pressure was key with opportunities for big gains for anyone who did this well.

In the 4.2 fleet Henry revelled in the conditions securing the event win with three straight bullets in R1, R2 and R3. R4 was won by Phileas (Hamble River SC) who scored second overall. Hendricks (Warsash SC) counted 3 x 3rd places to secure third overall.

In the 5.3s Thomas (Grafham Water SC) and Samuel Wade (Stokes Bay SC) both won two races each with Thomas's second in R2 securing his event win, impressively discarding a third in R3. Ava sailed consistently well all day and her 3 x 2nd places were enough to secure second overall in front on Samuel in third.

The sailors were treated to a picnic tea at the prize-giving on the lawn and all participants at their first Southern Traveller event of the year were awarded a Rooster neck gaiter from Southern Area Rep Roger Cerrato.
