RS Aero Open at Burghfield Sailing Club

by RS Aero UK Class Association 26 Mar 2024 09:29 GMT 23 March 2024

Fifteen RS Aeros were greeted by a blustery Burghfield with all the promise of an exciting day's racing that did not disappoint!

The fleet divided cleanly for Class racing with RS Aero 7s and RS Aero 5s and it was all on for 4 races, split by a nice lunch break in the club to recuperate! Each race was 2 laps with a downwind slalom covering all the angles and giving two gybes. After frequent wild rides in huge gusts we also saw some welcome blue skies and lighter breezes for a while too!

In the RS Aero 7s Nick Craig (Burghfield) took little time familiarising with his new RS Aero and was fast from the start. The chasing pack of Ollie Holden (Hayling), Peter Barton (Lymington Town) and Chris Rowland (Burghfield) could hang with Nick on occasion but ultimately after two laps Nick came out on top in each race. Second was spilt on a tie with both Ollie and Peter tied but Ollie taking 2nd in the final race and the 2nd place tie break.

The RS Aeros 5 saw Iona Willows' (Lymington) experience showing good speed and consistency over the younger sailors taking a 1,(2),1,1 to take the win. Again 2nd place was decided on tie break with Oscar Fry (Royal Southern) with (3),1,3,3 beating Torquil Morrison (Emsworth Slipper) with 2,3,(4),2 for the silver.

Thanks to Burghfield Sailing Club and Race Officer Mark Cooper for a great day's racing and thanks to Rooster for their support with the awards.
