Illusion Inland Championship 2023 at Middle Nene Sailing Club

by Wilf Kunze 17 Nov 08:30 GMT 11 November 2023

Better late than never - on Saturday, 11th November Middle Nene SC held the annual event for the Illusion class. Due to scheduling conflicts, the regular date of the first Saturday in September was not available, so six sailors enjoyed a glorious late autumn day on the water.

Three races had been scheduled but after the two back-to-back races in a light breeze in the morning and a break for lunch, the wind dropped and racing had to be abandoned.

The field was led in both races by the defending Illusion Inland Champion Matt Yallop in GBR16. In the final results table he was closely followed by Tony Wright (GBR82) and the newest member of the fleet, Gary Livingstone (GBR131).

Racing was very close and competitive, but Matt managed to take the lead straight away in both rounds and thus secured the trophy for another year.

The next Illusion event at Middle Nene SC will be the 8-hour-race in August 2024 (exact date TBA) and the Open Meeting/Inland Championship is planned for 7th September. For any enquiries, please contact
