Today was the last day of registration and measurement of the 2023 ILCA U-21 World championship. Originally, the practice race was planned for the morning and the opening ceremony to follow in the afternoon.
However, the day was marked by a lack of wind and no races where competed. A total of 181 sailors (115 men and 66 women) will be competing, representing 38 countries and 5 continents. Hopefully tomorrow the wind will be present and races will be sailed in good conditions during the weeklong event.
Sailing will be on one course area with two fleets; one for ILCA 6 and another for ILCA 7. Tangier promises a fantastic event as with generally windy and sunny conditions. The sailing area is unique, as the city of Tangier is an ideal backdrop for the races. When not sailing, competitors can relax at the boat park, which has a restaurant featuring typical Moroccan dishes and beverages. The sailors are very enthusiastic about this event, as it is the largest ILCA World Championship held in the African continent.
Two races are scheduled for tomorrow.
Organizing partners are the Royal Yacht Club de Tangier and Tangier Sailing in conjunction with the ILCA.
