More Gostosa crowned J/80 North American Champions

The 2023 J/80 North American Championship took place on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, one of the most picturesque lakes in New England and the White Mountains.

A fleet of two dozen boats was assembled to do battle from all across the USA and Canada. Hosting the event was the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club.

After a nine-race series, it was Conor Hayes's MORE GOSTOSA that won the championship with his team of Dan Jooda, Cat McLaughlin, and Joe Diller. After a semi-disastrous start on the first day with a BFD-5-BDF, Jason Balich's OVERACHIEVER posted a blistering pace of 3-2-1-3-1-1 for 39 pts net to take the silver medal. The OVERACHIEVER team included Balich as skipper, Chris Small, Doug Cochran, and Chole Frentzel. Rounding out the podium was Guy Nickerson's team on PRESSURE (Kurt Walton, Alex Bowen, and Nicolas Rigoni) with a total of 40 pts net.

The balance of the top five included Warren Flannery's FEISTY, the top Canadian team, finishing in 4th with 42 pts net, and Graham Phipot's BLACK DOG with 52 pts net in fifth place.

Corinthians Division

Winning the Corinthians was Hayes's MORE GOSTOSA, with Philpot's BLACK DOG taking the silver, and Les Beckwith's FKA taking the bronze medal.
