At the halfway point of the 2023 J/70 Segel-Bundesliga season, Lake Constance presented itself as a light wind area in late summer weather. The team of league organizers, led by Oliver Schwall, had already prepared for a challenging match day in advance.

"On Friday we managed to organize six flights per club in both leagues so that the match day can be included in the ranking," said Schwall with satisfaction. "The race management from the Konstanz Yacht Club did a great job and reacted to every breath of wind on the first day to achieve the maximum number of flights."

On the second day, it was completely calm, so the league sailors passed the time by wakeboarding, and the spacious grounds of the Konstanz Yacht Club also offered the opportunity to relax. "The supporting program that the Konstanz Yacht Club put together was perfect compensation for the lull," said Schwall. "Everyone had a great weekend, but would have liked to have sailed more."

The third day of racing started promisingly with light but consistent winds. For a large part of the fleet, a seventh flight was still possible until the wind died down again. For the teams that were unable to finish this race, the average points from the previous races were included in the ranking, so that the table now contains some odd points with decimal places.

The winner of the match day of the 1st Sailing Bundesliga was the team from the Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC) with helmsman Florian Krauß ahead of the experienced sailors from the Hemelingen Water Sports Club with Jan Seekamp at the tiller and the Munich Yacht Club (MYC) with Xaver Huber and his Team.

"We are super happy that we won the event. We are still a very young team and have now won a match day for the first time, let's see what happens next," said Bastian Henning from the CYC team.

Munich YC Leads Overall Series

The Munich Yacht Club was able to successfully consolidate its position at the top of the table. With just twelve points, the team from the Bavarian capital has gained a solid cushion over second place in the table, the Nord-Deutscher Regatta Verein, with 23 points. Third in the table is the Sailing and Motorboat Club Überlingen, which is also hosting the next league event at the beginning of October. At the bottom of the table is the Hamburger Segel-Club (HSC) with 57 points, which, like the teams from Flensburg (50 points) and Konstanzer Yacht-Club (54 points), has to sail against the threat of relegation in the two remaining match days.

Kiel YC Leads 2nd League

In the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga, the Kieler Yacht-Club (KYC) won the matchday with the same number of points as the second-placed Berliner Klub am Rupenhorn (KAR), while SC Ville came third. In the table, the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC) leads ahead of the Joersfelder SC (JSC) and the Itzehoe Sailing Association (SCI) with old master Christian Soyka at the helm.

"We decided from the start to give 110 percent, but it was a nerve-wracking weekend with a happy ending for us," said Niklas Schubert from KYC. Together with the JSC team, the Kiel team has legitimate hopes of promotion to the upper house of the German league sailors before the last two match days of the season.

The fifth event of the Sailing Bundesliga will also take place on Lake Constance from October 6th to 8th, hosted by the Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club.
