Celebrating the Success of the 7th Annual Camden Classics Cup

Penobscot Bay's harbors, rocky islands and picturesque mountains have long been renowned as an ideal backdrop for some of the best gatherings in the wooden-boat world.

This year's Camden Classics Cup (July 27-29) provided regatta participants, their friends and families, and the local community with fantastic racing that showcased the best of what these storied waters can deliver. While not all of the 86 classic and modern yachts that gathered on the waters of West Penobscot Bay sailed home with trophies, of course, it's fair to say that everyone decamped with get-you-through-the-coming-winter memories of great racing, wonderful camaraderie, and welcoming onshore hospitality and entertainment.

The breeze cooperated on Friday for a perfect day of racing; On Saturday it dropped to a wisp to make for a perfect day of swimming. Despite an abbreviated racing schedule, the owners and crews of the 86 classic and modern yachts -- as well as the 80 junior sailors in the Youth Regatta, and thousands of others who came out to spectate -- still enjoyed a memorable time at the 7th annual event on Penobscot Bay.

Thank you to everyone who came out to race, to watch, to support, and to sponsor the event. We're already looking forward to next year -- mark your calendars for July 25-27, 2024.

Camden Classics Cup Youth Regatta - A perfect day for our fleet of 80 Junior Sailors

Almost 80 junior sailors came out to race in our annual Camden Classics Cup Youth Regatta this year, our largest gathering to date! Generously sponsored by Bank of America and supported by CAYSP and Rockport Boat Club, the robust fleet sailed in 5 races on Friday in each of 4 divisions: Spinnaker 420s, Non-Spinnaker 420s, Optimist Championship, and Optimist Green.

Junior sailors came from CAYSP, Buck's Harbor, North Haven Casino, St. George Community Sailing, Tarratine Yacht Club, Castine Yacht Club, Rockport Boat Club, and the Apprenticeshop.

We could not host this FREE youth regatta without the generous support of our community! Many thanks to French and Brawn for the fleet's lunches, the awards from Maine Boats, Homes and Harbors, and the amazing support from the coaches and the parents!

Congratulations to the winners in each class:

Spinnaker 420: Catherine Daly, Ava Tobias (CAYSP)
Non-Spinnaker 420: Henry Ladd, Rory Magnay (Tarratine Yacht Club)
Optimist Champion: Maggie McCarthy (CAYSP)
Optimist Green: Emerson Councell (Castine Yacht Club)
