Royal Temple Yacht Club Round-the-Goodwins Race

by Piers Hodges 8 Aug 2023 06:29 BST 6 August 2023

In the wake of Storm Antoni, as the prelude to Ramsgate Week the iconic Round-the-Goodwins race, sponsored by Trews Workwear and Miles and Barr, had a late start as the Race Officer waited for the winds to abate.

It was agreed that the course around the sands would shortened due to the sea state mid-channel and a course of approximately 18 nautical miles shoreside of the Sands was set.

The offshore start was from the Committee Boat, Cristobel, and the fleet of over 30 yachts set off in blustery conditions. Not unexpectedly, there were several retirements but post-racing discussion agreed that the course was the right one, and the race officer had made the correct decision.

Overall Results:

IRC Class
1. Griel Scheveningen Yacht Club
2. Warrior Royal Temple Yacht Club
3. Kabluzo Royal Temple Yacht Club

Cruiser Class
1. Banzai Pin Mill Sailing Club
2. Blown Away Royal Temple Yacht Club
3. Roxanne Rye Harbour Sailing Club
