"Spinlock are please to present the new 'Spinlock 1999 Award' trophy for the fifth year running at the RS800 Noble Marine National Championship, at Brightlingsea Sailing Club between the 7th and 10th September 2023.
No one would choose an old boat to race if they had a choice, but it comes down to finances. With the cost of living having a massive impact on all our lives, our pot of 'fun coupons' gets smaller. Turning up to any National Championship with an older boat is a challenge. It's not only financially demanding, but mentally demanding with the thought that you are starting off on the back foot. However, as long as you double check everything, rig the boat correctly for the conditions, and limit your mistakes, an old RS800 can still be at the front of the fleet!
This year we have commissioned a brand-new trophy to be awarded the top old-style hull (sail number lower than 1118). The prize will be a Spinlock Rig-Sense tension gauge to help tune their rig. We hope the Spinlock 1999 Award will encourage more RS800s to compete at the highest level.
We wish all the competitors the best of luck and, most of all, enjoy Brightlingsea and your RS800 National Championships!"
Ash Holmes, Spinlock.
RS800s with a sail number lower than 1118 are eligible for both the Spinlock 1999 Award and the youth entry fee. Find all the event information here
