A strong high over southern Australia extends a ridge across the southern half of the NSW coast while a coastal trough near the central Queensland coast is slowly weakening, directing fresh southerly airstreams along the coast.

Southerly airstreams are forecast to weaken over the next few days as the high moves across the southern districts then winds will become northerly on Thursday ahead of a cold front that looks set to cross the coast between Friday and Saturday.

Where

On Wednesday on the Macquarie, Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra coasts, seas of 1 metre plus southerly and south-easterly swells of 2 metres.

Swell period

Seas and swell height are important but so is swell period - the likely time between swells will be around 17 secs at start of day, decreasing to around 11 secs by end of the day.

Warning

On those coasts on Wednesday BOM is warning that conditions will be dangerous for rock fishing and crossing bars.
