The blustery weekend failed to dent the party spirit for the St Mawes One Design Class as it celebrated its 100 years of racing on the weekend of the 15/16th July.

The pretty 16-foot daysailer suitable both for cruising and racing was designed by local boatbuilder, Frank Peters in 1923 and 45 boats have been built, with regular weekly racing at St Mawes Sailing Club.

Gale force winds forced the cancellation of racing at the Tresanton Classics Regatta on the Saturday.

However, the party started in the evening with a drinks reception at the St Mawes Sailing Club followed by dinner at the St Mawes Hotel. Over 60 guests were treated to a fantastic dinner supported by Cornish male voice choir, 'Rhos Keur'.

With 15 boats entered, the fleet celebrated its Centenary with a special race on Sunday morning. 'Kelpie', sailed by Jeremy and Henry Dunn coped best with the fresh conditions with gusts over 20 knots and led after the first leg. 'Ariel', sailed by Miles and Finley Carden recovered well from being OCS and fought their way back to second place, with 'Avocet' sailed by Mike Cooper taking third place. In fourth place was 'Osprey' sailed by Kieran Andrews and Ashley Chenoweth.

At prize-giving the fleet raised their glasses to the genius of the designer, Frank Peters who also built 24 of the boats between 1923 and 1964.
