Gurnard Sailing Club Junior Championship

by Luke Bradley 13 Jul 2023 09:50 BST 8 July 2023

Gurnard Sailing Club hosted its annual Junior Championship on the 8th July. The morning was spent waiting for the wind which eventually filled in mid afternoon but from a rather tricky southerly direction. Race Officer Mark Harrison did a great job to run 5 short races in the shifty offshore breeze.

In the 10 strong Feva fleet, Samuel Leather and Taylor Willows were in the groove with 4 firsts to count. The battle for runner up went down to the wire with Ben Anderson and Josh Griffiths just pipping Thomas Leather and Aether Marshall at the finish of the final race to claim second place. Hannah Yates and Barney Hall were awarded a prize for the youngest Feva pairing.

Competition was fierce in the Tera Sport class with Cass Day and Sean Di Salle both winning 2 races each. However Cass's consistency gave him the overall win from Sean with Rafe Bradley in third place overall.

In Regatta Fleet, 6 sailors did some training in the morning followed by 4 short races in the afternoon. Freddy Harrison cruised to victory with a clean sweep of firsts ahead of Lucien Foster and Penny Hall.

The day was rounded off with live music from the Dapper Chaps plus Special Guest with some of the sailors showing off their musical talents.

Thank you to Spinlock for sponsoring the trophies and also to Henri Lloyd and Helly Hansen for donating prizes.
