Tasar National Championship at Paignton Sailing Club - Overall

by Rick Perkins 10 Jul 2023 11:02 BST 7-9 July 2023
Steve Cockerill and Graham Williamson win the Tasar Nationals at Paignton © Rick Perkins

Paignton saved the best until last, and the final day on the English Riviera saw a beautiful sunny windy day, with 12 - 15 knot winds and SPF50 required.

The fleet assembled in the race area with 3 races planned for the final day it was all to play for with only a few points separating the top 4.

As it turned out the day was to be a battle for the 3rd place in each race as places one and two were taken in each race by Steve Cockerill and Graham Williamson and Paul and Bronwyn Ridgeway securing 1st and 2nd respectively in each race...

So the honours for 3rd place when to Jeremy and Suzanne Hawkins in race 6, Ian Swann and Spike Daniels and race 7 and Dave and Fiona Sayce in race 8.

This left Steve and Graham as very worthy winners of the 2023 Tasar National Championships.

The prize-giving was held in PSC clubhouse and the many great prizes were awarded thanks to the very generous sponsorship of the prizes by Rooster Sailing.

Category Prize Winners:

Masters: Jeremy and Suzanne Hawkins
Grand Masters: Steve Cockerill and Graham Williamson
Married Couple: Paul and Bronwyn Ridgeway
1st Woman: Nicky Griffin and Jon Heissig
Team Award: HISC

A huge thanks must go to the team at Paignton Sailing Club lead by Nick Ripley who put on a superb event keeping the race programme and social programme on schedule. The members of PSC were wonderful hosts with support for the sailors from the moment of arrival to the point of exit. With beach teams helping launch and bring the trollies down, the on the water management and the hosting in the club with great bar and galley teams... a real show of how a member's club can put on a great event. Thank you.
