Sea Cadets visit Bala Sailing Club with the RS21s

by Howard Eeles 11 Jun 2023 19:05 BST 3-4 June 2023

Last weekend saw the Sea Cadets and staff and volunteers from Midland Boat Station and Crosby Boat Station visit Bala Sailing Club to stretch their legs with their RS21s and give the Cadets a full Sea Cadet experience.

After the usual rigging and unpacking of the RS21s we got afloat in superb conditions: sunny, warm and a steady F3 blowing from the Northeast. This allowed the crews to hoist kites straight away and zig zag down the lake. After about 15 minutes the crews then got the opportunity to practise their upwind skills, a short lunch then repeat.

Sunday morning saw slightly less wind and different cadets and they worked hard to keep out of the way of a busy day of club racing and make the most of the length of the lake. After another fantastic day on the water, it was time to pack up and get on the road back to Liverpool and Birmingham.

All the cadets remarked it was a fantastic experience and could we have more of this. The staff, volunteers and cadets would like to give a special thanks to Bala Sailing Club for making everyone feel most welcome and a special thanks to Mike Allen for making it happen.
