The weekend of 3 and 4 June saw members of Overy Staithe SC enjoying some lovely conditions as they raced on the Saturday evening tide for the Jubilee Jug and on the Sunday morning tide for the Scoles Trophy.
Saturday evening's race started in the creek, and was tricky by a large number of open water swimmers practising for the Norfolk Superhero event. With swimcaps bearing a close resemblance to small mooring marks it was hard to know what was what. The race got under way but there were a number of helms who were too eager to get going and as a result ended up OCS. The course took the fleet out into the lagoon and a temporary mark was laid heading out to sea, giving some great sailing for the 14 strong fleet.
Once a number of retirements had been recorded along with the OCS results the final results showed Alec Deakin in 1st, George Smith 2nd (both Lasers) and Bernard Clark 3rd. Sam and Richard Mason (Albacore) were the only double hander racing and finished 4th.
Sunday morning saw a 7am start which reduced the fleet somewhat. The same course was used, and this time the fleet were behind the line at the start. Bernard Clark suffered from his sail falling down (twice) but other than that the race went well, and line honours went to Ash Deakin (Laser), with Simon Turner (OK) 2nd and Alec Deakin (Laser) 3rd.
