Members of the St Edmundsbury Sailing & Canoeing Association are looking forward to the club's '10th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta'. The Regatta, which is the highlight of the club's racing and social calendar, will be held on Sunday, 11 June at Lackford Lake, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
The event was initiated nine years ago as a fun event to celebrate and coincide with Antigua Sailing Week. To SESCA's amazement, the Regatta came to the attention of the Sailing Week Race Committee, via a Google news alert. The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority were so impressed with the initiative that they contacted the club are offered to become the event sponsor.
SESCA's Mike Steele said 'We are delighted to be holding our 10th Antigua Sailing Day Regatta. We feel very privileged to be associated with such a prestigious international sailing event as Antigua Sailing Week and are very grateful to the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority's ongoing support.'
'Each year, we endeavour to make the Regatta bigger and better than before, so are hoping to exceed the current fleet record of 38 boats at this 10th anniversary event '.
There will be two races in the morning and one in the afternoon for both adult and junior divisions. The Tourism Authority will once again be providing a steel pan band for lunch time entertainment and prizes of a Caribbean nature.
Spectators are welcome but no dogs are permitted on site as the club is in a nature reserve.
Next year's Antigua Sailing Week will be held from 27 April - 3 May 2024.
