The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham-on-Crouch is getting set to welcome teams from across the country for the first event of the 2023 RYA Summer Match Racing Series. A regular and popular venue on the national match racing circuit, up to eight teams of 4/5 crew are invited to #rockupandrace the club's fleet of 707s over the weekend of 1-2 July.

Nick Milton, Rear Commodore Sailing, said: "Building on the successful, and close fought, match racing events of the past few years, the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club looks forward to welcoming competitors both old and new for another round of the RYA Match Racing Series. The fleet of 707s is ready, the sun and sea breeze have been ordered, and the race team are raring to go."

The Notice of Race is available at RYA Match Racing and early bird entry is open and available at £440 per team until 23:59 on Saturday 10 June 2023.

Among those already entered is skipper Ted Blowers with Team Absolute, who won Qualifier 3 of the RYA Winter Match Racing Series at Burnham in March 2023.

Officials lined up for the event include International Race Officer Tom Rusbridge, who will be the Event Director, and Nick Devereux as Chief Umpire, with RCYC's Edwin Buckley as PRO. There will also be coaching support for less experienced teams.

The club will be inviting sailors to enjoy its bistro meals on the Friday evening with panoramic views from the balcony, and the club's bar and kitchen will be open all weekend providing meals, refreshments, snacks and grab-and-go sandwiches.

Saturday evening will include the main social for the event with a Curry Night bookable in advance via the RCYC office at £15pp, offering a selection of curries with rice and sides, plus an alternative.

The club has a list of local accommodation to support teams looking for somewhere to stay as Burnham heads into the busy summer season for holidaymakers.

For those with tents or campervans, the club also has a field available: £18 per night, pay over the weekend, use of hot showers/toilets and changing rooms included.

Enter now and for further information, or to book the Curry Night or camping field, contact the RCYC Office by emailing or calling 01621 782105.
