Trogir CRO Melges 24 Cup at the Outdoor Festival

by Cro Melges 9 May 2023 00:03 BST 6-7 May 2023

The view of the old town of Trogir, city of Masters, and Kamerlengo Tower provided the perfect stage for the sea battles of the best Croatian sailors in the one-design class Melges 24 last weekend. The premiere of the Trogir CRO Melges 24 Cup, which was sailed as part of the fifth edition of the Outdoor Festival, once again showcased the splendor of Croatia's sailing "Champions League".

After Dubrovnik, Split, Opatija, Biograd, Zadar, and Rovinj, Trogir is the seventh city in Croatia where the best Croatian sailors have competed in the CRO Melges 24 Cup. In a strong competition between 17 crews from Croatia and the Czech Republic, the Biograd crew Panjic took the overall victory. Despite challenging weather conditions and light winds, the complete program of six races was carried out, in which Panjic was in a league of their own. With three wins, two second places, and a fourth place as the worst result, helmsman Tonko Rameša's crew worked like a perfectly tuned machine on the racecourse in front of Trogir. In the end, they won convincingly with 11 points ahead of second-placed Mataran 24 and 14 points ahead of the Razjaren crew.

"I would like to thank our 'armatore' Luka Šangulin, who handed me the helm for this regatta. We have done the Panjics proud in Trogir. Summa summarum, the genius and world experience of Tomislav Bašic made the difference, the crew did a top-notch job, and I served more as an autopilot. We functioned as a team, and that brought results," said Panjic's helmsman Tonko Rameša.

As the host of the Trogir CRO Melges 24 Cup Outdoor Festival, the current European champion in the Corinthian division, the Mataran 24 crew, won the second place.

"As the organizer, we are thrilled because we had excellent event, in which the absolute highlight was the finish line beneath the walls of the Old town in the 'Masters under sail' race. The Melges were moored in front of famous Kamerlengo tower, so that everyone could enjoy the beautiful view of the boats. With this move, we wanted to bring sailing in this beautiful one-desgn class closer to people. To achieve a sports result, we needed a bit more concentration and luck, and Panjic deservedly won in Trogir. I would like to thank all our partners (city of Trogir, Tourist Board Trogir, Zajednica športskih udruga Trogir, Trogir Outdoor Festival, radio Trogir, restaurants Franka and Bocel, Way Point charter, SCT Marina Trogir, ICZ RODOP sailing team, Vinohradský pivovar, Pivovar Hostivar) and all people who were part of this beautiful Trogir's sailing story," said Mataran 24 crew member and one of the organizers, Ivo Matic.

In the Corinthian divison, Tutta Forza took first place ahead of SHE and Iggy. The crew from Zadar has a 100% success rate this season in the CRO Melges 24 Cup races. With three wins in three appearances (Dubrovnik, Biograd and Trogir), they have clearly demonstrated their candidacy for the overall Cup winner among the Corinthians.

The CRO Melges 24 Cup is sailed in partnership with Angelina Yacht Charter, Sailing Point, North Sails, One Sails, digital studio Akvarij, digital agency Raiser, regate.com.hr, and EmergenSea, and after the summer break, Split will host the regatta from the Melges 24 European Sailing Series, which is scheduled from October 5th to 8th.
