Just under three months till Bassenthwaite Sailing Club welcomes visitors and members to CraftInsure Bass Week 2023, starting on Saturday 5th August. It's going to be another busy one, both on and off the water with one hundred boats entered and still one month till the discount deadline on June 4th.
Craftinsure Bass Week is a true regatta week, with a mix of mini-series and one-off races, hopefully a long distance race up the lake (4 miles) on Monday and two pursuit races, the Nairn Pursuit on Tuesday and the RNLI pursuit on Thursday. Over 9 days competitors can potentially join all 18 races, although many choose to sit out the odd one or two and watch the action with a cold refreshment - sponsored for the second year running by Cumbrian Ales! With still a month to go until the discount deadline, the Lasers are leading the fleets, with twenty already entered, closely followed by the Flying Fifteen and Fast Handicap fleet which have numbers well into double figures. Competition is going to be hot in the mixed Tera, Topper and Mirror fleet, with ten RS Teras already entered.
The wonderful Wild Zucchinis Cafe are providing a variety of delicious breakfasts and lunches throughout the week. Manon has a passion for healthy, fresh food with a foreign twist, we're delighted to have her and her team on-site all week and we know her food will be a massive hit with hungry sailors and campers! Food vans will be on site on the following evenings, with Heavenly fish and chips and Shake Waffle and Roll on Saturday 5th, Wednesday 9th and Saturday 12th August and Scream for Pizza on are visiting on Monday 7th.
This year, Bass Week's infamous social programme includes the Commodore's reception on Saturday, followed by a disco. It's quiz time on Sunday, starting the with children's quiz then later the adults. Monday is a good one for the youngsters, with a children's pirate party followed by live Music from Luke Mateur. All things Bingo on Tuesday, starting with family bingo followed by barmy bingo?! Wednesdays sees the return of the children's bouncy castles followed by live music from the popular Collision. It's games night on Thursday with a bit of gladiator and sumo wrestling on the side. Calling all (children) rainbow ravers for a party on Friday followed by more live music, this time by Out on Bail. And then... to top it all off, the final fling disco with a 90s theme.
On the water the event will be once again supported by Red Seal Rescue, a group of volunteers from the North East who this year celebrate 30 years of first class safety cover at Bassenthwaite SC. You can visit their webpage here.
It's starting to look a little busy on the caravan/motorhome front, however we have plenty of space for tents. If you are looking to visit with a caravan/motorhome we would recommend local sites including Herdwick Croft Caravan Park (0.5 miles) or Trafford's Caravan Site (2.5 miles).
