Techno 293 European Championships in Torbole - Day 3

by Elena Giolai 14 Apr 2023 09:50 BST 9-15 April 2023

The third day of complicated weather conditions at the Techno 293 European Championship in Torbole, on Garda Trentino, an event organised by the Circolo Surf Torbole by delegation of the Italian Sailing Federation: after a long wait between rain and wind that came and went, the Race Committee took advantage of the first window of less adverse weather to start at least the under-17 fleet.

While the rain stopped falling in the mid-afternoon, the temperature still remained rigid, but the boys managed to have a race, albeit in a very gusty wind that was difficult to manage, given the gusts of 10 to 25 knots from the north.

After four races, the Spaniard Bruno Barbara Tor is still in the lead among the men's under-17s, despite today's fourteenth place (discarded with the inclusion of the fourth race); second is the Greek Vasmanolis and third overall is the Turkish Topal.

Victory of the day for the other Greek Koutelas. Riccardo Poledrini from Cagliari (Windsurfing Club Cagliari) is first among the Italians, fifth. First two Turkish positions among the U17 females with Defne Simay Basdag (first of the day) and Nurhayat Güven.

Third was Teresa Medde from Cagliari. A good performance on the day for Greece's Anagnostou (second) and Turkey's Guzel (third). Many girls were unable to finish the regatta due to the sudden and too violent gusts.

From Friday afternoon, the penultimate day of this Techno 293 European Championship, the weather is expected to improve, and every effort will be made to race as many races as possible for all categories, so that we can see a final ranking with a fair number of races in total.
